Finally a post that has nothing to do with kneeling, protests, coronavirus or other current manifestations of general idiocy.

We’ve had a lot of it in Perth recently.

Three weeks ago we were belted from the northwest by the remnants of Cyclone Mangga. A few days later we got another storm from the southwest, which is the more usual source of rain and bad weather at this time of year.

Considerable damage was done across the city. A group of shops just around the corner from home had their awnings ripped loose from the brickwork. In fact, some of the brickwork went with them.

They’ve since been patched up, and the fish and chips (white shop at the right) is back in business. The other two establishments are still fenced off.

A few days after all that, another storm turned beautiful Cottesloe beach

into the Cottesloe Seaweed Emporium.

In total Perth has had about 140mm of rain dumped on it since May 1. That’s about 30mm above average.

Which brings to mind this quote from the Antiopdean Al Gore, Professor Tim Flannery:

I think there is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis. It’s whole primary production is in dire straits and the eastern states are only 30 years behind.

As pointed out here, that’s another of those climate change horror scenarios that was built more on fear than fact.

Okay, so some general idiocy crept in at the end.

To make up for that, here’s a kitten.
