In the meantime…

I’m going to be away for a few days. There’s a special event coming up next week that requires some attention in advance.
Let it be said that my definition of special and your definition of special may be two very different things. You’ll have to wait and see.
Until then – here’s I piece I wrote on Tim Blair’s old blog several years ago. Tim supplied the first sentence; I extrapolated from there.
‘Andrea’ was his blog administrator.

I’ve just driven a Bentley Continental GTC from California to Las Vegas.

Where you met up with Andrea, who brought every man in the room to his knees as she entered, the slit up the side of her evening gown decent by the smallest of margins. You found yourself shoved aside by stockbrokers, oilmen, accountants, and the rest of the hustlers. You had to explain to a Saudi prince that no, your beautiful companion was not for sale. 120 camels might be a very good price for a woman in his part of the world, but – the negotiations were terminated at this point when the comely Miss Harris laid the unruly gent on his back with a savage but well-aimed left to the snotbox. ‘Allah protect us!’ his bodyguards squealed, and trampled a cabaret act into the carpet as they fled.
You were the centre of attention, Tim, the envy of strong women and frail men alike as Andrea linked her arm with yours. ‘Mr Blair,’ she said, her voice husky, her perfume filtering into your consciousness like an irresistible narcotic, ‘I’m so tired of this rabble. Be a darling, and have the automobile brought around. I want to feel the midnight wind in my hair…’
