A few thoughts about Django Unchained.

They do throw THAT WORD around quite a lot, although anyone who’s shocked by it obviously slept through Blazing Saddles*. Or maybe they just forgot:

Funny, but I haven’t heard any outrage of the demeaning use of ‘boy’. That seems just as offensive to me as any reference to a man’s colour.
Tarantino proves his ear for language with a very passable Australian accent. I’m doubtful that the Antipodean dialect was so distinctively developed by 1858 but hey, if you want historical accuracy go and read Roots.

Oh. Wait…

*There was hue and cry the first time Saddles was shown on Australian tv. The broadcaster aired a version that had much of the language toned down.
And what was offensive back in the mid-80s? Well, the old lady’s line ‘Up yours, n-r!’ was changed to ‘Out of the way, n-r!’
Censorship in retrospect often seems an exercise in the bizarre.

  1. Tarantino (pardon my French) is an asshat lefty white boy, that promotes his work(?) through, uhh, what’s the word I’m lookin’ for here..OH YEAH, Lefty Asshattery.

But I guess it works, to and for those of the same mind(?) See, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, et al. Racists one and all.

And PUH-LEEZE do NOT take the above, as a slap against your post, good sir..

    • No offence taken. Tarantino might be a lefty asshat but at least he didn’t donate his face to that Demand A Plan video. Jamie Foxx might have followed his lead on that.

  2. BTW, Quince..uhh Quentin was born in Knoxville TN, ’bout 35 miles from Gatlinburg, TN. Tickled he moved, but then being a Richie Boy, guess he is as well. 🙂

    • Git the feelin’ yer not a fan a’ Mister Tarantino…
Tell you something I thought was strange. I went to the 11am Sunday screening and it wasn’t a large audience, maybe forty at most, but nearly all seemed to be my age or older, so in the 50-60 demographic. Husbands and wives, and all stayed until the end.
What a joy to get through a movie with no damn mobiles cheeping or teenagers checking text messages.

  3. LOL…Me? Moi? Haven’t been to an in theater movie, in God knows how long. But you are right on, with the kiddies and adults and their love affair with modern gizmo’s. Drivin’ behind them, isn’t a hell of a lot of fun, either.

  4. Another BTW..’Tis ok if I refer a friend’s daughter who has a talent for art, to you, eh?

    • Fine. Good luck to anyone who takes me as an art teacher, though.
